4-Heptylbenzoyl chloride is a molecule that has been shown to have cytotoxic activity in vitro. The cytotoxicity of 4-heptylbenzoyl chloride may be due to its ability to alter the lipid composition of the cell membrane, leading to cell lysis and/or apoptosis.
Molecular modeling has shown that 4-heptylbenzoyl chloride may bind to DNA and inhibit RNA synthesis, which is essential for cancer cells. This is supported by the fact that 4-heptylbenzoyl chloride does not affect normal cells.
4-Heptylbenzoyl chloride has also been shown to have anticancer activity in vivo, as it inhibits tumor growth in mice models with cervical cancer.
