Descripción:4-Hexylphenol is a glycol ether that is used as a solvent in the manufacturing process of polyurethanes, polyester resins, and cellulose acetate. 4-Hexylphenol is also used as a lubricant and as an ingredient in cosmetics. 4-Hexylphenol may be found in water vapor, which can lead to cancer of the cervix. This chemical has been shown to have an effect on cellular structure and function by altering the hydrophobic effect. 4-Hexylphenol alters natural compounds such as fatty acids, proteins, and nucleic acids by altering their chemical structures. The effects of 4-hexylphenol are irreversible because they are not easily reversed by hydrochloric acid or base treatment.
