N-(Hydroxymethyl)benzamide has been shown to have benzodiazepine receptor-binding properties, which may be due to its ability to bind in the active site residues of the receptor. N-(Hydroxymethyl)benzamide also binds spontaneously to water molecules, which can be attributed to its acidic functional group.
