Descripción

3-Hydroxy-DL-kynurenine is an intermediate in the kynurenine pathway. It is a product of tryptophan metabolism and can be converted to 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid or 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid. 3HKO has been shown to be a biomarker for bowel disease, with a rate constant of 0.037 per hour. It has been detected in CDNA clone studies and is being used as an analytical method for diagnosis of this condition. The α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) has been found to bind this compound and may play a role in the development of bowel disease. This substance also causes neuronal death by altering cellular energy metabolism and blood sampling has revealed that it reacts with proteins to form hydrogen bonds, which may contribute to protein oxidation.
