2'-Hydroxy-4'-methoxychalcone (2OHM) is a natural compound that has potent inhibitory activities against cancer cells. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in vitro and protect against skin cancer in vivo. 2OHM induces necrosis factor-α, which triggers the immune system's response to cancer cells and other foreign invaders. 2OHM also inhibits the multidrug resistance-associated protein, which is an enzyme that pumps drugs out of cancer cells. Studies have shown that 2OHM inhibits the growth of viruses by binding to viral DNA and inhibiting viral RNA synthesis. The molecular weight of 2OHM was measured using NMR spectra, and it had minimal inhibitory concentrations between 3 μM and 30 μM for all cell lines tested.
