Descripción:2-Hydroxythiazole is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria that are resistant to penicillin, ampicillin, and erythromycin. 2-Hydroxythiazole binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. 2-Hydroxythiazole also inhibits beta-lactamases by binding to them and blocking access to their active sites. 2-Hydroxythiazole can be used as a drug for treatment of cancer, nervous system diseases, and other disorders.
