It is used in human medicine to prevent blood clots from forming, and is also used to treat migraine headaches. The mechanism of action for this drug is not clear, but it has been shown to inhibit platelet activation in vitro and prolong bleeding time in vivo. 4-Hexyloxybenzylamine has been shown to have an antiplatelet effect in rats by inhibiting platelet aggregation and adenosine release. This drug also reduces blood pressure by blocking the effects of norepinephrine on alpha-1 receptors, which can lead to vasodilation.
