4'-Hydroxy-4-methoxychalcone is a compound that has been shown to have antidiabetic and antioxidant activities. It also shows antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, with an IC50 of 1.2 μM. The synthesized 4'-hydroxy-4-methoxychalcone was found to have higher affinity constants (Ki) than the parent chalcone, which may be due to the presence of the methoxy group in the 4'-hydroxy position. This analog can also be used as a cancer therapeutic agent because it inhibits tumor growth in mice by targeting cancer cells through interactions with cellular macromolecules such as DNA and protein synthesis. It has also been shown to show antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium complex, and Helicobacter pylori.
