4-Hydroxybenzylidene acetophenone is a natural compound that has been shown to exhibit cytotoxic activity against human cancer cells. It inhibits the production of TNF-α and reactive oxygen species, and increases mitochondrial membrane potential in MCF-7 cells. The mechanism of action of 4-Hydroxybenzylidene acetophenone involves binding to the heme group of cytochrome P450 and altering its reactivity. This compound has been proposed as a possible analytical method for determining the amount of reactive oxygen species present in biological samples.
