3,3,4,5,5,5-Hexafluoro-2-pentanol is a monomer that has been used as a polymerizing agent. It is also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of perfluoropropene. This chemical can be synthesized by reacting phosphorus pentoxide with ethanol or 2-pentene. 3,3,4,5,5,5-Hexafluoro-2-pentanol can be polymerized to form polymers with yields of up to 95%. Polymers formed from this chemical have excellent thermal stability and are resistant to radiation. They are also resistant to oxidation and hydrolysis and have good electrical properties.
