1,3,3,4,4,5,5-Heptafluorocyclopentene is a reaction product of 1-fluoro-1,2-dichloroethane and hydrogen fluoride. The yield of the reaction is high at temperatures of about 100°C. The compound has a spectrum that is characteristic of an unsaturated hydrocarbon. This reaction rate is rapid and can be followed spectroscopically with a constant regression curve. The compound fluoresces brightly and has a high efficiency in hydrogenation reactions. Potential values are given for fluorine gas as well as for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
