6-Iodo-2H-3,1-benzoxazine-2,4(1H)-dione is an activating agent that is used to produce prostaglandin E2. It can be synthesized by the amination reaction of dimethylformamide with a sulfoxide and irradiation. The solvents used can affect the purity of 6-iodo-2H-3,1-benzoxazine-2,4(1H)-dione. When 6-iodo-2H-3,1-benzoxazine-2,4(1H)-dione is irradiated for a long time or in solvents that contain phosphite or amide impurities, it becomes a reaction product. This agent has been shown to have pharmacologic effects on depression in animal studies.
