1-Isocyano-4-methoxybenzene is a reactive molecule that can undergo metathesis reactions. This process involves the displacement of two adjacent atoms in a molecule by one atom from another molecule. In this case, the chloride yields are increased and the reactant is made more labile. The nucleophilic attack of 1-isocyano-4-methoxybenzene on halides leads to nucleophilic substitution reactions with nitrogen as the attacking atom. The nucleophilic attack also leads to reductive elimination when ethyl diazoacetate reacts with 1-isocyano-4-methoxybenzene. Functional groups on 1-isocyano-4-methoxybenzene include an ethyl group, which has a c-h bond, and a methoxy group, which has a carbonyl group.
