1H-Inden-1-one is a trifluoroacetate ester of indole. It is used in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. 1H-Inden-1-one has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to nitrogen atoms and bacterial DNA gyrase, topoisomerase IV, or RNA polymerase. It also inhibits amyloid protein production and biological samples containing amyloid proteins are more susceptible to degradation by 1H-Inden-1-one. Hydrochloric acid is required for the reaction mechanism.
