Isopentyl phenethylether is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of phenethylethers. Isopentyl phenethylether has been shown to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction in vitro, specifically by preventing DNA synthesis. It also inhibits energy metabolism and body formation in cells, and has biochemical properties similar to other plant compounds. Isopentyl phenethylether inhibits cell division by binding to the nuclear dna of bacteria and yeasts, thereby inhibiting transcription and replication. This compound may be used as a fluorescence probe for the identification of cell nuclei. Isopentyl phenethylether can also be used in place of sodium citrate in biochemical studies to measure the rate of meiosis (cell division).
