Descripción:Isopropyl acetate is a reactive solvent that is used to extract and purify organic compounds. It reacts with a hydroxyl group, forming an ester. The reaction mechanism for this process has not been determined, but it is thought to be either a nucleophilic substitution or an addition to the double bond. Isopropyl acetate has a pKa of about 7.4, and it reacts with the acidic groups of many substances to form esters. It is also used as a solvent in inks, glues, lacquers, and varnishes. Isopropyl acetate has been observed to cause kidney fibrosis in rats following chronic exposure at high concentrations. This may be due to its ability to react with protein-containing molecules such as albumin and hemoglobin.
