Isothiazolidine 1,1-dioxide is a small molecule that inhibits the growth of cells in culture. It binds to chloride channels and prevents the flow of chloride ions into the cell, which depolarizes the membrane and leads to cell death. Isothiazolidine 1,1-dioxide has been shown to inhibit restenosis in animal models by preventing proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells. This compound also has inhibitory activities against inflammatory pain. Isothiazolidine 1,1-dioxide inhibits the depolymerization of proteins by inhibiting the activity of peptidases and proteases. It also has inhibitory properties against azides and amines.
