1-(4-Iodophenyl)propan-1-one (1-IOP) is a radiopharmaceutical that can be used as a radiotracer. It is prepared by reacting 1-iodobenzene with propanal to form 1-iodoacetic acid, which reacts with potassium ethoxide to produce the desired product. Radiolabeling of 1-(4-iodophenyl)propan-1-one can be achieved using various halides such as bromine and iodine. The use of this compound for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging has been well documented, and it has been used in both preclinical and clinical studies. The β+ decay of 1-(4-iodophenyl)propan-1-one yields a positron, which is detected by the PET scanner.
