It has shown anticancer activity in a human colon carcinoma cell line, and it inhibits the production of nitrous oxide from inducible nitric oxide synthase, which is important for tumor invasion. 4-AIBA also inhibits tyrosinase activity, an enzyme that is involved in melanin synthesis. This inhibition may be beneficial to skin conditions such as acne or pigmentation disorders. The compound also inhibits the degranulation of mast cells and stimulates cell proliferation in rat mesenteric lymph nodes.
