3-Isoniazid is a drug used to treat bowel disease. It inhibits the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines in bacteria and has been shown to be effective against some forms of tuberculosis. 3-Isoniazid binds to inhibitor molecules, which are enzymes that are required for the synthesis of nucleic acids in bacteria, leading to their inhibition. 3-Isoniazid also blocks receptor activity in bacteria, inhibiting their ability to bind to host cells and invade tissues. The reaction mechanism for 3-isoniazid is steric interactions with the enzyme molecule, which are electrochemical interactions that lead to an increase in the repulsion between the electron clouds around the molecule's atoms. The rotarod test can be used as a screening tool for 3-isoniazid toxicity by measuring motor function on a rotating rod while under its influence. The polymerase chain can be inhibited by 3-isoniazid due to its structural analysis and intermolecular hydrogen bonding properties
