Indole-3-propionic acid methyl ester is a microbial metabolite that is excreted in urine. Indole-3-propionate methyl ester has been shown to be an important metabolite for the microbiota and has been found to have a complex interaction with tryptophan metabolism. This compound can be detected in urine samples, which can be used as an indicator of microbial activity.
