4-Iodo-DL-phenylalanine (4IOPA) is a thrombin receptor ligand that is not labeled with a radioactive isotope. 4IOPA binds to the active site of the thrombin receptor and can be used in protein synthesis studies. The drug is taken up by cells in the pancreas, which may be due to its low energy and chemical properties. 4IOPA has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth and proliferation in model organisms, such as MCF-7 breast cancer cells. This drug also has an important biological function, which is to bind to the hydroxyl group on proteins or nucleic acids.
