2-Iodo-L-phenylalanine is an impurity found in L-Phenylalanine, which is used as a precursor for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. 2-Iodo-L-phenylalanine has been shown to have carcinogenic effects in animal experiments and has been shown to cause tumours in rats when injected into their pancreas. This impurity also reacts with nucleophilic compounds such as sodium hydroxide or amines, leading to the formation of 2,4-diaminophenoxyacetic acid (2,4 DAPA). 2,4 DAPA can be used for the diagnosis of cancer cells.
