The hydroxyl group on the benzenoid ring activates the molecule by hydrogen bonding with the protein target, thereby inhibiting its activity. 1-Iodo-2-methoxybenzene may also be used as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) due to its light emission properties.
