Iristectorigenin B is a natural product that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It has been found to inhibit the signal pathways of tumor necrosis factor alpha and nuclear factor kappa beta, which are pro-inflammatory cytokines. Iristectorigenin B also inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and nitric oxide. Iristectorigenin B is derived from Huperzia serrata, an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. The extract is purified by trifluoroacetic acid treatment and then chromatographed on a silica gel column. This compound has been shown to exhibit potent activity against human leukemia cells (HL-60) in vitro with an IC50 of 0.4 micrograms/ml.
