(Iodomethyl)trimethylsilane is a reactive, carbon-containing compound that is used to prepare silicon-based nanomaterials. This chemical can be synthesized from carbon monomers, such as ethylene or propylene, and alkyl halides. It is able to react with many functional groups including aldehydes, amines, carboxylic acids, hydroxyl groups, thiols and nitriles. The compound also has potent inhibitory activity against Alzheimer's disease by covalently immobilizing the protein beta-amyloid in vitro.
