Descripción

Isoxazole-5-carbonyl chloride (IAC) is a molecule that contains an isoxazole ring with a carbonyl group at the 5th position. It is acidic and has a chemical structure similar to piperazine. IAC is used as a linker in the synthesis of pleuromutilin derivatives, which are active against bacteria that cause pneumonia and other respiratory infections. IAC also has antitumor activity, although it is not yet clear how this activity occurs. IAC can react with electrophiles to form carcinogenic nitrosamines or reactive oxygen species, which can lead to DNA damage and cancer.
