Isosilandrin is a fine chemical that is used as a versatile building block for research chemicals, and can be used as a reaction component in the synthesis of other compounds. It has shown a high reactivity with electron-deficient olefins and aromatic compounds. Isosilandrin is also used as a reagent to synthesize complex compounds, such as 3-aryl-2-oxindoles and 1,3-dihydrobenzofurans. Isosilandrin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in rats, and to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity.
