Descripción:Isobutyl-4-hydroxybenzoate is a preservative that is used in cosmetics, foods, and pharmaceuticals. It has bacteriostatic activity against Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria. Isobutyl-4-hydroxybenzoate prevents bacterial growth by binding to the cell wall at an affinity site and inhibits the production of enzymes that are necessary for cell division. Isobutyl-4-hydroxybenzoate also has antibacterial activity against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. This synthetic molecule is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
