Jasmolin II is a mixture of natural compounds that has been shown to have anthelmintic efficacy against roundworms. It is made up of pyrethrum extract, piperonyl butoxide, and fatty acids. The chemical structure of Jasmolin II is a derivative of the naturally occurring compound pyrethrin, which can be extracted from the chrysanthemum plant. Pyrethrin’s structure is composed of a cyclopentane ring with a long chain hydrocarbon attached to one side and a hydroxyl group attached to the other side. The key difference between Jasmolin II and pyrethrin is the addition of an additional hydroxyl group on the opposite side of the cyclopentane ring. This modification prevents hydrogen bonding between molecules, which makes it more difficult for insects to break down jasmolin II into inactive metabolites. Jasmolin II also disrupts mitochondrial membrane potential by inhibiting ryanodine receptors in invertebrates
