Janus green B is a fluorescent dye that forms reactive oxygen species in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The dye has been used as a probe to monitor the energy metabolism of cells and can be used to measure enzyme activities. Janus green B is also used to determine how wastewater treatment processes work. This dye reacts with potassium dichromate, which produces heat, and titration calorimetry is then used to measure the amount of heat generated during this reaction. Optical sensors are then used to detect the fluorescence emitted by Janus green B.
