Jojoba oil is a liquid wax that is used in a wide variety of products. Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of jojoba shrubs, which are native to the Sonoran Desert. The jojoba shrub contains three types of wax esters: cetyl, stearyl and oleic. These esters are similar to those found in human sebum, making jojoba oil an excellent moisturizer for the skin. Jojoba oil has been shown to have an epidermal growth factor (EGF), which stimulates new cell growth. This property may be due to its content of glycerin and fatty acids. Jojoba oil also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its hydrogenated nature and adsorption mechanism with sodium carbonate on the surface of the skin.
