Levonadifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that acts as a potent inhibitor of protoporphyrinogen oxidase, an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of heme. It is used for its antimicrobial properties and is effective against a wide range of bacteria. Levonadifloxacin has shown inhibitory effects on paraquat-induced oxidative stress and has been studied as a potential herbicide. In addition, it has been found to have androgenic activity and can bind to the androgen receptor. Levonadifloxacin is metabolized in the liver, with glucuronide metabolites being the major form detected in plasma. This compound exhibits light emission properties under certain conditions, making it useful in photocatalytic applications.
