Lithium aluminium hydride is a chemical reagent that is used in organic synthesis as a reducing agent. The hydroxide solution of lithium aluminium hydride (LiAlH4) can be used to reduce carbonyl groups to alcohols and aldehydes. It also has the ability to catalyze asymmetric metathesis reactions and acylation reactions. Lithium aluminium hydride is also an environmental pollutant, which has been shown to result in the formation of chlorinated hydrocarbons in the air. It can also cause epidermal growth and stimulate epidermal growth factor production when applied topically on skin cells.
