Descripción:Ubenimex is a synthetic bile acid analog that inhibits the synthesis of bile acids by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. Ubenimex has been shown to be effective against certain types of tumor cells and may have potential as an anticancer drug. It also has been shown to inhibit the growth of aziridines, which are intermediates in the synthesis of bile acid derivatives. Ubenimex may induce apoptosis by activating pro-apoptotic protein Bax, thus causing cell death. This compound also can form conjugates with glutathione, which may protect ubenimex from degradation by cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver.
