• Descripción: Lubiprostone is a glycol ester that increases the frequency and amplitude of spontaneous contractions in the intestine by activating chloride channels in the apical membrane of intestinal cells. Lubiprostone, which is administered by mouth, has been shown to be effective in treating chronic idiopathic constipation. It also has been shown to have beneficial effects on atherosclerotic lesions and bowel disease-related symptoms. Lubiprostone has been evaluated in clinical trials for its treatment of constipation. The drug was found to be safe with few adverse effects and it was also effective in relieving constipation when compared to placebo.
