Methyl paraben sodium has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity at concentrations above 0.1%. The concentration-time curve for methylparaben sodium shows that it has a rapid effect on bacteria, with an increase in the number of dead cells after 24 hours. Methyl paraben sodium also showed significant cytotoxicity against human lung cells at concentrations below 1%.
