Descripción:3-Methylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde is a chemical compound that consists of an intramolecular hydrogen. It has been shown to undergo a reaction with chloride, which releases hydrogen chloride and a chalcone as the product. The rate of this reaction is catalyzed by the presence of palladium. 3-Methylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde has been studied using electrochemical techniques, in which it was found that the substrate binding site on the molecule is active methylene and that the reaction mechanism is via hydrogen bond formation between HCl and active methylene. This compound can also be used as a model system for studying reactions involving active methylenes.
