(S)-(-)-alpha-Methoxy-alpha-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetic acid is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of organic compounds. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of tuberculosis, a bacterial disease that affects the lungs and other organs. (S)-(-)-alpha-Methoxy-alpha-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetic acid inhibits mitochondrial functions in cells and therefore blocks energy production. The compound also exhibits an inhibitory effect on the metabolism of amines. This inhibition leads to an increased concentration of amine metabolites, which are toxic for bacteria.
The compound is not metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and does not bind to proteins or nucleic acids.
