3-Methoxy-4-Methyl-5-Oxo-N-[2-(Trifluoromethoxy)Phenyl]Sulfonyl-1,2,4-Triazole-1-Carboxamide (3MT) is a herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants by binding to fatty acids in the cell membrane and blocking their function. 3MT has been shown to be effective against perennial ryegrass and other weeds. It binds to the plant's fatty acid binding protein, which prevents it from functioning properly and blocks the plant's ability to transport nutrients. This causes a reduction in dry weight and carbohydrate content. 3MT is also effective against crop plants such as wheat and triticum aestivum.
