Methanesulfonic Acid, 2-Phenoxy-N-[2-[4-[3-(Trifluoromethyl)Phenyl]Piperazin-1-Yl]Ethyl]Acetamide (MSAA) is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme creatine kinase. It has been shown to be just as potent as the commonly used drug, phenytoin, in inhibiting this enzyme. MSAA also has an excitatory effect on laboratory mice and animals. It is hypothesized that this may be due to its ability to potentiate glutamate receptors. The effects of MSAA are not limited to laboratory animals; it has also been shown to have neuropharmacological effects in psychiatric patients.
