Methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride is a chemical that can react with the hydroxyl group of a phenolic acid to form an epoxy. It has been shown to be a potent inducer of eosinophil cationic protein in human serum and urine samples, which may lead to the accumulation of these proteins in the airways. The thermal expansion coefficient of methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride is higher than that of many other polymers, making it a good solid catalyst for epoxy resin synthesis. Methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride also reacts with boron nitride and reactive metals to form new compounds.
