Methyl 2-amino-6-phenyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene-3-carboxylate (MPACT) is a ligand that is used in magnetic and thermal analysis. It has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for transfer hydrogenation reactions. MPACT is able to form metal complexes with transition metals. Magnetic properties may be determined by the strength of the interaction between the metal and the ligands on MPACT. Thermal analysis can be used to determine the stability of a complex and its ability to react with other chemicals. IR spectroscopy can be used to detect and identify functional groups on MPACT by their vibrational frequencies.
