Descripción:
2-Methoxy-5-nitrobenzonitrile is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of benzene, methyl ethers. It is an organic compound that has been shown to be a good nucleophile and is used in the synthesis of pyridine. 2-Methoxy-5-nitrobenzonitrile can exist as two stereoisomers, but only one of them (the erythro form) is stable at room temperature. The erythro form has a dipole moment, which allows it to react with nitrite ion or cyanide ion, forming an unstable nitroso species. This process can be used to synthesize 1-(2-methoxynitro)benzene from 2-methoxybenzonitrile and sodium nitrite.
