3-Methoxy-5-nitroaniline is a plant hormone that belongs to the group of auxins. It is photolabile and can be used to study auxin receptor sites in plant cells. 3-Methoxy-5-nitroaniline has been shown to bind to the receptor molecule, which promotes cell division in plants. This chemical has also been found to produce physiological effects on plants, such as inhibition of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. 3-Methoxy-5-nitroaniline may have analogs that are not photolabile and could be used for studying other receptor sites in plant cells or investigating other plant hormones.
