4-Morpholin-4-yl-4-oxobutanoic acid is a pharmaceutical that belongs to the group of morpholines. It is used in medicine as an optically active substance and as a chiral auxiliary for asymmetric synthesis. 4-Morpholin-4-yl-4-oxobutanoic acid has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of chloride channels, which are found on the surface of cells. The drug also inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, by binding to its active site and preventing access to it.
