Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-3-methylbenzoate (MDMB) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It interacts with the receptors of cytokines such as IL-1 and TNFα, which are important for the immune response. MDMB has been shown to inhibit the production of IL-17 in mononuclear cells induced by rheumatoid arthritis. This drug also has inhibitory effects on other cytokines such as IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10. The crystal structure of MDMB has been determined and it was found that the molecule interacts with human mononuclear cells through a pharmacophore that contains two hydroxyl groups and a methyl group.
