(4R)-2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid is a benzene derivative that is used as a building block in organic synthesis. It has been shown to undergo hydrosilylation with acetophenone in the presence of rhodium chloride, yielding a 1:1 mixture of the 2,5-diphenyl and 2,6-diphenyl products. The conformations of these two products have been determined using conformational analysis and molecular mechanics calculations. The hydrosilylation reaction is reversible and equilibrium favors the 2,5-diphenyl product at high temperatures. This product also undergoes conformational changes on substitution with electron donating or withdrawing groups on the phenyl ring.
