The fruit extract of Camptotheca acuminata contains alkaloids, which can be converted into 2-(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethanol by alkalization. 2-(2-Methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethanol is effective against hordeolum, acne, and infectious diseases caused by viruses such as herpes simplex.
