Methyl 2-isocyanato-4,5-dimethylthiophene-3-carboxylate is an organic compound that belongs to the isocyanates group. It reacts with amines and anilines to form urethane bonds, which are strong and stable. This reaction has been used in the synthesis of polyurethanes. The isomerization of methyl 2-isocyanato-4,5-dimethylthiophene-3-carboxylate can be accomplished by heating it in a vacuum at 200 °C for 10 minutes, or by adding anhydrous aluminum chloride. Methyl 2-isocyanato-4,5-dimethylthiophene-3-carboxylate is also used as a solvent for some dyes and in the production of silicone rubber.
